2 c Flour 1 c Brown sugar 1 c Walnuts; chopped 1/3 c Candied orange peel; chopped 1/8 ts Nutmeg 1/8 ts Cinnamon 1/8 ts Ground cloves 1/2 ts Anise seed 1/2 c Hot water * Nut cakes of Italy. Cook the sugar and water together until the syrup spins a thread. Remove from heat and add the nuts, spices and orange peel. Add the flour and knead into a smooth dough. Roll thin, cut into small squares or round shapes and bake at 350 until light brown, 8-12 minutes. ----- |
